It was inaugurated the "Glaciarium," the first Ice Museum in Calafate, Province of Santa Cruz (Argentina).

Last Saturday, February 15th it was inaugurated the "Glaciarium," the first Ice Museum in the country in which the Government authorities are trying to raise awareness about the importance of caring for these immense wonders that are precisely the glaciers. The Argentinian President, Mrs Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's attended the "Glaciarium" inaugural ceremony .

Deployed over an area of 60,000 m2 in the Patagonian steppe and with a unique view of the Lake Argentino and the National Park Los Glaciares, this cultural and scientific centre will open its doors throughout the year to more than 350,000 tourists visiting El Calafate.

With a state of the art architecture, designed by Studio Guiraldes y Cordeyro, the Glaciarium has a central hall that copies the lines and the magnitude of a glacier. With angles, huge windows having irregular shapes, this is one of the few glaciological museums in the world, which abandons the traditional idea of the museum with windows and glass windows, to convert visitors into protagonists.

Among its main attractions, an auditorium for 120 people in which films are shown in 3D HD, with aerial views of the landscapes of Patagonia and its National Parks.

For anyone interested in learning how the glaciers formed, in the glaciers behaviour and how the glaciers have been transforming in the course of history, in this centre they will have the opportunity to move closer to a permanent exhibition on climate change and will find exhibitions of art and photography, in which the rigorous scientific and technical information is presented as educational and attractive.

Among representations, video, aerial views of the main glaciers and audio visual shows, visitors can immerse themselves in performances that include scenic, lighting and sound effects that seek to excite the feelings and disclose the secrets of the glaciers.

This site of worldwide cultural and scientific importance was built with the EMMEDUE® building system.
